Kathmandu: Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal has claimed that the Ministry of Finance has developed a system capable of immediately implementing any decision, emphasizing efficiency, transparency, and accountability in government operations.
‘Assurances Alone Cannot Develop the Country’
Speaking at a national economic debate program held in Kathmandu on Saturday, Minister Khanal said that the ministry has adopted a process that enables it to listen, discuss, decide, and act without delay. He stated that the government cannot rely solely on promises and must ensure that policies are translated into immediate action.
“The country will not develop through assurances,” he said. “We have tried to radically reform the customs administration to control corruption in line with the spirit of the Gen-G movement.”
Reform in Line with the Spirit of the Gen-G Movement
Minister Khanal remarked that the Gen-G movement had sent a powerful message that without good governance and control of corruption, ordinary citizens will be deprived of opportunities to work within Nepal and will be compelled to seek employment abroad.
“The Gen-G movement has reminded us that unless corruption is curbed and governance improves, citizens will have no choice but to go abroad for jobs,” he said.
Focus on Employment and Institutional Reform
Minister Khanal added that the Ministry of Finance is undertaking structural reforms across all ministries to ensure better coordination and accountability.
“We are currently in a position to listen, discuss, make decisions, and implement the Finance Ministry system. Reform work is underway in every ministry, and efforts are being made to radically reform the customs administration to reduce costs,” he said.
He further stressed that the government is taking all possible measures to prevent a situation where citizens are forced to leave the country in search of employment.
